The scene opens up in the War Room of Project Rebirth, refurbished since the sacking by the Knights of the Squared Circle. Agent Shadow and Captain Steve Rumlow are sitting while their commander, Chris Pyro stands at the head of the table. Conspicuous by her absence is Chloe "Skie" Reinhardt.
Pyro:
Men, EVPW is returning for a three week long tournament. I was asked to enter one of you into the tournament, and this was a tough decision. Seeing the list of competitors, I have chosen Agent Shadow for the task and have already given his name to those that matter.
Rumlow nods and goes to stand, but Pyro gestures him to sit.
Pyro:
Not so fast, Rumlow. We are a unit, and those eliminated doesn't mean we are out of the game. Should any other opportunity arise that may require our attention, I'll need you.
As Pyro finishes, a knock comes to the door.
Pyro:
Enter.
Chloe makes her way in, a stack of papers in her arms and a disgruntled look on her face.
Chloe:
Sir, they just announced the brackets for the opening of the tournament. You won't believe who Shadow is up against.
Pyro takes the sheet from her, and rubs the bridge of his nose in disbelief.
Pyro:
Shadow, I apologize greatly. I didn't think they'd include... Her... in this tournament.
Pyro tries to stifle laughter as Shadow stands, a look of confusion on his face.
Shadow:
Who is it, sir?
Pyro:
Kahlan. This is ridiculous.
Chloe:
That's not the only ridiculous thing announced for this tournament. They're not even using Jimmy Pate or Ray White.
Pyro looks even more dismayed as he reads the paper work.
Pyro:
You can't be serious. Has this been confirmed?
Chloe:
Double and triple checked.
Pyro:
Did someone at the head office decide this by taking a dart board and placing random names?! No wonder EVPW can't get momentum for a rebirth with people like this leading the charge. Never thought I'd say this, but the guy who ran this place a few years ago at least had some idea of what he was doing. Let's go and get this done. We may have a use for you during this tournament yet, Rumlow.
Rumlow:
Yessir!
With that, all four members of Project Rebirth stand up and make their way out of the War Room.
