Back at the war room, Agent Shadow, Chloe "Skie" Reinhardt and Captain Steve Rumlow are seated at the table, frustration clearly on their face. The recent events with the Knights of the Squared Circle and Wolverina leave them a little upset.
Rumlow:
What the hell is going on? I know Pyro is the strategist for us, and he won't lead us wrong. But going to war with both the Knights and Wolverina? Is he suicidal?
Agent Shadow looks to his partner, the mask hiding the anger he feels at Rumlow's accusation. They all may be loyal, but none of them are stupid. They both can tell that just going against the Knights will leave them with a handful, and with Wolverina in the mix it adds a bit more tension to their situation.
Shadow:
Watch your tone, Captain. This is our Commander you're talking about. He wouldn't have gone to war the way he has, if he wasn't sure we could handle it.
Chloe:
Are you sure this isn't the Dark Jester we saw out in the ring earlier with Wolverina? I know I don't know him quite as well as the two of you, but I have dug up information...
Both the Captain and the Agent look to Chloe, despite their comments, it seems hearing that Chloe gathered information on their boss seems to have brought the two back to focus. Chloe sees the look, and realizes she has crossed a line with both of these men.
Chloe:
It's a force of habit. CSIS, remember? Anyway, I know the crimes he has committed, the violence and the horror. Seeing what he did to SM Raye's mother's remains still haunts me. It seems he has it under control, but what if he wasn't when he saw Wolverina?
Steve lowers his head, and shakes it in disagreement.
Rumlow:
Trust me, Chloe. It wasn't the Dark Jester. He... He changes when he becomes that monster. He laughs and wouldn't walk away without attacking Wolverina. Who we saw in the ring was Chris as we have seen him for months.
Chloe:
How can we be sure though?
Agent Shadow:
I was with him a few times when the Dark Jester came out. Steve's right, there are changes when his demon takes hold.
Right as Shadow says that, Pyro walks into the room. He turns and sees his fellow Project Rebirth members around the table. Steve stands straight, arms crossed over his chest.
Pyro:
Problem, soldier?
Pyro looks right at Rumlow, who turns to look his commander in the eye.
Rumlow:
Why are we now in a war with Wolverina? Especially so soon after starting a war with the Knights!
Annoyed at the tone that Rumlow had taken with him, forces Pyro to step into Steve's face, who doesn't back down. Chloe and Shadow stand up and walk to the two, ready to split up anything that may occur.
Pyro:
Remember your place here, Rumlow. You may have served, but in this army, I'm the boss. So I recommend you change your tone. Heheh...Before I make you change it, boy...
Shadow gives a knowing glance to Chloe, letting her know that last tone was a sign of the Jester. Steve senses the same, and backs off a little. Steve knows the dangers of the Dark Jester, and that none of them want the monster pointed at them.
Rumlow:
Sorry, sir. Just I don't understand. None of us do.
Pyro:
No need to worry. My fight with Wolverina will not be a drawn out war. I have no interest in wrestling long term. This is a fight I need for myself. I've fought her and watched her in the ring. I know she is tough and willing to do anything. I just need to know if what I said out there was right. If she could only win with help from others.
Pyro takes a moment, he realizes the doubt in his own voice and shakes his head.
Pyro:
This war is for me, and me alone. You are my soldiers, and I trust you. But this is one I need to do for myself. After TNT, I need this match to prove that even though I am retired, I can still go. So that if need be, I can stand beside you in the ring and fight the Knights and defeat them. This is why I need you. The Knights are likely to make a play, with me distracted. It's why I need you out there. You are not to touch Wolverina, she is mine. You just need to be ready for the Knights to make a move, and keep them out of this. Wolfie will learn her lesson. Are you with me? Do you trust that I will not get us into what we couldn't handle?
The three soldiers look to one another and nod.
Chloe:
I'm in.
Shadow:
I'm in.
Rumlow:
When do we start?
Pyro smiles at Rumlow's last statement.
Pyro:
We just did.
Project Rebirth turn back to the door and walk through it as the scene fades.
