The scene opens in a small room in the back of the EVPW arena, empty except for two chairs. Sitting on one of them is EVPW's resident interviewer, Lizzie Morna. Her guest, almost unrecognisable at first, is the man known only as Skull. Instead of his usual attire, the The Hellion is wearing the rather low key ensemble of a black t-shirt and a pair of ripped jeans. His face, devoid of the usual make up and paint, make him look more human and less like the caricature that the audience are used to.
Wasting no time, Lizzie immediately begins her interview with the returning star.
It's been an amazing night so far with many crowd favourites returning to EVPW. My next guest is yet another of these returnees, the man known as Skull.
Now Skull, I certainly didn't expect to see you like this. Where is the fanfare, the monsters, the face paint?
It’s time for a change, Lizzie. I sit here in front of you without the make up and face paint, without the monsters and make believe. I sit here as a wrestler, not a comedian. That was the old Skull. Or, more specifically, that was the new Skull. And that’s the problem. You see, the old Skull was feared and respected. The old Skull was ruthless and aggressive, a top contender for any championship in any promotion. But then, over time, I guess I just... lost interest. I don’t know if it was apathy, malaise or just plain laziness, but I simply lost my desire to compete. When I did turn up, albeit infrequently, it wasn't to win championships, it was to simply have fun and cut goofy promos. That all changes tonight. Tonight, I revive the old Skull.
So we will be seeing a more serious and more focused attitude from you? Do you have any words for you opponent tonight, Kahlan? Earlier today she referred to you as nothing more than a joke.
Kahlan is quite right. I had become a joke. And she's not alone in that sentiment, the entire roster has forgotten just how dangerous I am. But I'm not worried about them and I'm certainly not worried about Kahlan. She’s good, don’t get me wrong, but she’s also arrogant. She doesn't respect her opponents, she certainly doesn't respect me, and I will use that to my advantage tonight.
There was once a time when I would come to the ring wearing a necklace. A necklace of shrunken heads, each resembling one of my victims. Kahlan’s head once adorned that necklace and tonight I will remind her why.
Well you certainly seem very confident going into this match.
Oh, I’m more than confident. In fact, if I lose this match tonight, I will officially retire from EVPW. Forever.
Lizzie almost does a double take at this revelation, her eyes scrutinising Skull, wondering what he could possibly gain from making this stipulation. Sensing that The Hellion has made his point and has no more left to say, she wraps up the interview.
Well there you have it ladies and gentlemen. A very bold statement from a man who will be putting his career on the line later tonight. Will this be the reinvention of Skull or will his biggest gamble be his last. We'll be back after this break.
