The scene begins in the arena parking lot as we see a blue sports car slow to a halt. The car seems recently cleaned, seeing as the cameraman’s reflection is easily visible in the paintjob. As the engine cuts off, the driver side door opens and we see a man step out of the expensive motor. His dark grey suitjacket which partly covers his white vest crumples as he hoists himself fully upright, and his sunglasses shine in the fluorescent light of the car park. Shutting the door of his car, the man speaks.
“Don’t get me wrong- I’m a modest man but there are pleasures in life that you cannot deprive yourself of. I have a nice house, a nice car, and I live a good life. It’s to be expected when you make your living by selling out arenas and main eventing on pay-per-view for years. I’ve spent over five years kicking people’s heads in.”
The man removes his sunglasses, and it becomes obvious that it’s former EVPW star and self professed GHW Legend, Ryan Hughes. His last sentence brought a smile to the Mancunian’s face, and it carries over in to the next part of his speech.
“You could say that I’ve been lucky. I have been content for nearly a year now, just sitting at home, watching days slip in to nights, spending much needed time with my family. I love them to bits. But I don’t think that feeling is mutual. My wife fell in love with me- let me rephrase- my wife fell in love with the old me. She fell in love with the man who would main event Glory and Honor Wrestling week in, week out. She fell in love with the rebel with the fire in his eyes. We bore a child together, she’s beautiful. It was because of my daughter that I moved on. I put my career on hiatus because I know from my own childhood that a kid needs two parents- but because I’ve been at home, I’ve lost that fire. And my wife doesn’t see me in the same way anymore.”
“Where am I going with this? I’ll tell you. I came back to this place because it’s the only place where I know how to be me. I’m NOT cut out for sitting in a house and climbing up the walls. I’m cut out for tearing men limb from limb, spilling their blood and putting them down for the count. I’m cut out for winning the most brutal deathmatches and being able to raise a championship belt with a smile on my bloody face. I’m cut out for being the sick, twisted beast who terrorised companies for years!”
Ryan walks away from his car and past a few other, notably less pristine motors as he makes his way to the arena entrance. There is a clipboard in his left hand, with a bit of paper attached to it.
“It’s time that I get back to what I do best. I’m going to end careers if it makes my wife love me. I’m going to make men suffer their worst nightmares if it puts a smile on my little angel’s face.” He holds up the clipboard. “This little piece of paper means that as of right now, I’m the newest member of the EVPW roster. I may have been lucky, but it’s a shame I can’t say the same for whoever gets put in front of me. God help you all.”
As the Brit reaches the double doors of the arena entrance, there is a weedy looking young man with thick glasses who has been waiting anxiously for Ryan’s arrival. Not the best day to start your new job as intern, but whatever. Hughes approaches the visibly scared man, before pressing the clipboard and paper to the intern’s chest.
“Make sure this gets to KingBear.”
Hughes strides through the double doors, leaving the intern to nervously fix his crooked glasses before rushing off-scene in a flash.
