Nearly a month had passed since the monster known as Cromwell had signed a contract with EVPW. However after an early workout injury he was unable to participate in his first match. However he is the first person seen as the camera man and his crew roll into the weight/training room. Cromwell’s knee is the subject in question as the trainer has him bend it back and forth at 90 degree intervals. He seems to be doing so rather easily as the trainer is the first of the two to speak.
“Well it seems everything is back to normal, I would take it easy with the excessive lifting but you should be able to return in ring this next week. Although I do warn you hyper extended ligaments are tricky and can be easily tweaked so when I say take it easy I mean it.”
Cromwell nods in agreement, the jingling from his dog tags making more of a sound then he does. The trainer stands from his bent over position. He sends Cromwell his regards and wishes him the best before leaving the room.
“Finally some peace and quite”
The mammoth of a man reaches into his athletic pants and pulls out an MP3 device. He seems to have selected a song and untangles his ear buds before blasting the music at full volume and lying down on the press bench. Two 45 pound plates and one 25 pound plate sit on each side of the bar as Cromwell positions himself on the bench. He wraps his fingers around the bar before lifting it off of its resting place and down to his chest. He begins cranking out reps, 15 lifts at a time. After the second rep he takes a brief intermission and sits up from his lifting position. He undoes his ear buds just in time to hear his phone go off. Cromwell reaches over the bench and grabs his phone before answering.
“Hey mom, I’m good just finishing working out here got the A ok from the doc so I can get back into action this week, what about you”
The voice on the other line sounds like nothing but a sweet and caring mothers voice that is worn with the stress of many years. Words are exchanged for a few brief moments before the large man responds with a rather small answer.
“Yah, I know I miss him too”
It seems as if the monster himself has a soft spot for the man that is now gone in physical form but remains in spirit. His father had passed when he was rather young and most memories he has of him are not documented just locked away in his head for private viewing only.
“Really, you found one? Take a picture of it and send it to me okay? Alright I love you too I’ll be down to plant some flowers later this week, bye.”
Cromwell then takes the phone away from his ear and starts scrolling through his messages as he now has a new one from his mother. The photo is of an actual photo of him and his father from when they were both much younger. Tears swell but do not escape the eyes of the army kid as he quickly wipes them away as if they were never produced. Cromwell is in much shock as most photos of his father were destroyed in the old house fire. The caption under the photo states that this one had survived the fire and was kept safe with his father’s favorite book he used to read overseas. His mother had found it and planned to keep it. Cromwell mutters to himself
“I miss you and I’ll never go back on my promise. I will make you proud.”
Cromwell raises the dog tags from up underneath his shirt and gives them a hard stare before looking to the sky as if his father were watching him now. He quickly returns them to the place he had them before and plugs his headphones back in thus continuing his workout.
EOT
